Here at Skipper’s Pet Products, we support the environment by using sustainably sourced fish and eco-friendly packaging. But did you know we also support both local and nationwide dog rescue and dog adoption centres?
Saturday, 25th October 2025, is National Dog Rescue Day, but despite this, the Skipper’s team and their customers have been showing support to rescues across the country for many years. This is our way of giving back to the community and giving these dogs the love and support they deserve. But how do we show this support?
Which dog rescue centres do we support and how?

Being able to regularly give back and help out different dog rescue centres across the nation is something the Skipper's team is extremely proud of. Over on socials, we post monthly "Pawdoption Project", also known as dog adoption, posts which highlight dogs on the hunt for their forever home, foster or sponsor to keep them on their feet. We do this to give these dogs the best chance at life in the hopes that our post finds the right person looking to give their heart and home to a new four-legged friend that they can grow old with.
In particular, we work with both the Romanian Rescue Appeal and Perrera Dogs on this project. The team at Perrera particularly holds a special place in our hearts as they brought us our friendly office dog, Wendy - a sweet girl who loves splashing around in puddles and distracting us from our daily tasks with her attention-seeking attitude.
As well as this, we also make monthly donations behind the scenes to Jerry Green Dog Rescue. From one local business to another, it's important to us that we show our support to those close by, and we couldn't think of anyone better than Jerry Green. This rescue is not only close to our office, but also close to the hearts of our customers, with a lot of them having shown support through both donations and dog adoption themselves.
Jerry Green Dog Rescue - From the shelter to adoption

How do you match each dog with the right home, and what does the adoption process involve?
"At Jerry Green Dog Rescue, our Meet&Match® process ensures every dog is carefully matched with the right family and lifestyle. Adopters are supported through applications, meet-and-greets, and tailored rehoming plans, with ongoing advice to help dogs settle happily. We’re proud this approach historically influenced rescue centres nationwide, and our commitment doesn’t stop at adoption, once a Jerry Green dog, always a Jerry Green dog."
What are some of the biggest challenges you face in rehoming dogs, and how do you overcome them?
"Some dogs take longer to find homes, such as seniors, bonded pairs, or misunderstood breeds. To give them the best chance, we work with other charities and rescues so our dogs are seen by as many people as possible. We also promote them through our social media channels, posters in our charity shops and, if needed, we will transfer dogs between our three centres so they can reach different audiences. For those with more complex needs, our centre trainers provide tailored support before the dogs are ready for adoption. Alongside this, we focus on educating adopters and celebrating the joy of giving these dogs a second chance, because with patience, the right support, and wider visibility, every dog can find their perfect match."
Can you share a recent success story that really touched your team?
When three young Huskies, Orion, Nova, and Aurora first arrived in our care, their condition was heartbreaking. Underweight, weak, and struggling with severe digestive issues, they needed urgent attention.
The first ten days were focused solely on stabilising their health, helping them build up strength, restoring their appetite, and addressing their gastro problems. Step by step, these siblings began to heal.
Two months later, the transformation was incredible. No longer fragile and uncertain, Orion, Nova, and Aurora were full of life again, and ready to take the next step. Each of them has now found a loving home, beginning a brand-new chapter surrounded by the care and security they always deserved.
Meet Wendy - A Skipper's Rescue Story

Naturally, all of the staff here at Skipper's have grown up around dogs and therefore they hold a special place in our hearts. In particular, Wendy, our friendly office dog, was rescued by the lovely team at Perrera Dogs Dog Rescue themselves and now lives with our Creative Director, Greg, bringing so much joy to his home and the office with every visit she makes.
As soon as we heard Wendy's story, we knew we had to do more to support dog rescue and adoption centres across the country in any way we could, to ensure dogs like Wendy get the life they deserve.
So meet Wendy! This sweet girl was rescued by the incredible team at Perrera Dogs after being found as a stray on the side of the road in Romania. To begin with, Wendy was a super shy pup. She wasn't the biggest fan of fellow dogs, men or playing games. However, if there's one thing for sure, this little lady has always loved a cuddle.
Fast forward to one year later, and Wendy is as confident as ever! Day in and out, she greets everyone with a wagging tail and excited howl and adores playing with her best friend Bailey in the office. Plus, a Fish Skin Twist never goes uneaten when Wendy is around. She's the most perfect four-legged friend and Skipper's taste tester we ever did meet! Can you spot her on our website?
The results of our support so far
Watching Wendy’s personality shine through and her confidence grow stronger has been such a wonderful experience for all at Skipper’s, and knowing that there are dogs out there that are yet to have this experience is heartbreaking. But, after implementing our Pawdoption Project on our social media channels, we can confirm that we have helped to find up to 10 of these wonderful dogs their forever homes!
But this isn’t all from us. None of this would be possible without the support of our fantastic customers, who have continued to support us. This constant support allows us to make such large monthly donations and also reach a wider audience on social media by engaging with our dog adoption posts and resharing them to help find each dog a forever home.
How can you support these dog rescue centres?
Whether you’re inspired by Wendy’s story, a Skipper’s customer or just love dogs, there are plenty of ways that you can help support dog rescue and adoption centres far and wide.

Adopt a dog
Whilst this isn’t an option for everyone, one of the biggest ways you can help dog adoption centres across the country is by giving your heart and a permanent home to one of their four-legged residents. You can head to each rescue centre's website to see the dogs that they currently have available, but warning, you’ll fall in love with them all!
Interact with us on Social Media
By liking, commenting and sharing our dog adoption social posts, you can help us reach a wider audience, therefore giving these dogs an even better chance at finding their forever home. It’s free, it's easy, and it makes a difference!
Continue to support Skipper’s
Simply continuing to support Skipper’s Pet Products helps us be able to make such generous donations on a regular basis. Without this continued support towards our small business, none of this would be possible.
Together, we can make a difference to these dogs' lives by helping them find their forever home and keeping their overall health in pristine condition with our 100% natural dog treats and vet-approved dog foods.
