Are these ingredients okay for my homemade dog treats?
Absolutely! Each ingredient in our Fish Pie recipe is selected to ensure it is safe and beneficial for your furry friend.
Flaxseeds: These tiny seeds are packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which are great for your dog's skin and coat. They also provide dietary fibre, aiding in digestion and maintaining a healthy gut.
Eggs: A fantastic source of protein, eggs help build and repair body tissues and support a healthy immune system. They also contain essential amino acids and nutrients like vitamins A and B12.
Sweet Potatoes: Rich in vitamins A, B6, and C, sweet potatoes support your dog's vision, immune function, and skin health. They are also high in dietary fibre, which promotes healthy digestion.
Skipper's Whitefish & Herb Slices: Whitefish is an excellent source of lean protein and essential fatty acids, which are crucial for maintaining your dog's muscle health and energy levels. The added herbs can provide additional nutrients and flavour.
Goats Milk: Easier to digest than cow's milk, goats milk is rich in calcium and probiotics, supporting bone health and a balanced digestive system.
By using these wholesome ingredients, you're not only treating your dog to something delicious but also providing them with a nutritious and balanced snack.
Method:
1. Prepare the flaxseed dough
In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of flaxseeds with 2 eggs, stirring until thoroughly mixed and a dough forms.
2. Roll out the dough
Roll out the flaxseed dough on a lightly floured surface and use a cookie cutter to cut the dough into circle shapes, creating the crust for your pies.
3. Bake the crust
Place the cutout circles into baking cups or a muffin pan and bake in a preheated oven at 150°C for 15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and crisp.
4. Prepare the filling
Whilst the crust is baking, peel and boil the sweet potatoes until they are soft and tender. - Optionally, cut the Skipper's Whitefish & Herb Slices into smaller, bite-sized pieces for easy filling.
5. Assemble the pies
Once the crust is baked, fill each pie with the prepared Skipper's Whitefish & Herb Slices.
6. Make the sweet potato topping
Mash the boiled sweet potatoes and mix in a splash of goat's milk to create a creamy consistency; spread the mashed sweet potato on top of the filled pies and add any desired toppings for extra taste!
7. Finish and serve
Serve these homemade fish pie dog treats to your canine companion and watch them delight in every bite!
