Our Process

Bringing you high quality Fish treats from the sea to your dogs bowl.

Skipper's production process illustration

Step 1: Sourcing

Sustainably sourced fish is skinned and filleted. The fillets go to places like Supermarkets and fishmongers while we take the skins that would otherwise not be used.

Step 2: Shaping

We grade the skins by size and twist and fold them by hand into the required shapes to make the products our customers love.

Step 3: Drying

The skins go into our special air-drying ovens, at low temperatures, for 2-5 days, and we gently lift the moisture from the skins.

Steve Moore, Skipper's founder, on where our fish comes from

Where Our Fish Comes From

We use only high-quality, sustainably sourced fish, and our skins come from fish already prepared for the human food market.

When we started Skipper’s, these skins were usually tossed aside. By turning them into delicious dog treats, we’re helping reduce waste and give more of the fish a purpose.

Now fish skin is finally getting the love it deserves. Packed with natural collagen and in high demand for its health benefits.

What Our Customers Say

We've delivered over 300,000 orders of Fishy treats and foods to our customers pets since 2014.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does fish help with my dog's skin and coat?

Fish is great to add to your dog's diet as either the main protein or a supplement. This is because of the rich content of Omega-3 found in fish. Omega-3 is essential for your dog's coat to be much more shiny, therefore making the coat look healthier. Not only does Omega-3 improve the appearance of your dog's coat, it also reduces itchiness and dryness on your dog's skin.

How do fish treats help to clean a dog's teeth?

Our fish treats have a naturally abrasive texture. When your dog chews on the treat, it creates friction against the teeth, scraping away plaque and tartar buildup. The chewing action also stimulates the production of saliva, which helps to break down food particles and further helps your dog maintain healthy gums and teeth.

Can dogs eat fish?

Yes, dogs can eat fish. In fact, including fish in your dog's diet can be very beneficial for your dog's health!

Can fish upset a dog's stomach?

Fish is a high-quality, easily digestible protein, which is great for dogs with sensitive stomachs. However, if the fish treats are causing your dog to get an upset stomach, we recommend seeking advice from your veterinarian, as your dog may have an allergy to fish. If so, your veterinarian will diagnose this. Another reason can be due to a sudden diet change.

Is the Whole Haddock a long-lasting treat?

Yes, our Whole Dried Haddock is a long-lasting treat for most dogs. As it's a whole fish, it offers a naturally tough texture that takes time to chew through. It's ideal for keeping dogs occupied whilst also supporting dental health through the natural chewing action.

What are the benefits of Whole Dried Haddock for dogs?

Whole Dried Haddock is a highly nutritious, single-ingredient treat that’s naturally rich in Omega-3 fatty acids to support healthy skin, coat, joints, and brain function. It’s also packed with lean protein for muscle maintenance and energy. As this treat includes the head, bones, and body, it provides a variety of textures that help clean teeth and satisfy your dog’s natural chewing instincts. Air-dried to preserve nutrients, it’s a wholesome, long-lasting treat dogs love.

Is Whole Haddock safe for dogs?

Yes, our Whole Dried Haddock is safe for dogs when fed appropriately. Our haddock is gently air-dried, which preserves the fish whilst softening the bones enough to be safely chewed and digested. It’s a natural, single-ingredient treat with no additives or preservatives. However, this is not a daily treat and should only be fed occasionally.

What age are the Whole Dried Haddock suitable from?

16 weeks is the earliest age you can start feeding our Whole Dried Haddock to your dog.
